to be sad because other people are doing something without you:

10. be on its last legs
If a machine is on its last legs, it is old and will stop working soon:

11. be out of this world
to be very good:
Their chocolate cake is just out of this world! (তাদের মতো চকলেট কেক আর কোত্থাও পাওয়া যাবে না!)
12. be/get carried away
to be so excited about something that you cannot control what you say or do:
I got carried away and started telling her off. (আমি (নিজেকে) সামলে রাখতে না পেরে তাকে গালি দিতে শুরু করলাম।)
13. be up to somebody
to be somebody’s duty or responsibility; to be for somebody to decide:
It's not up to you to tell me how to do my job. (আমার কাজ কীভাবে করতে হবে সেটা আমাকে বলা তোমার দায়িত্ব না।)

Winter has come early this year. (এই বছর আগেভাগে শীত পড়েছে/ শুরু হয়েছে।)
8. come apart
to break into pieces
The book came apart in my hands. (বইটা আমার হাতে খুলে গিয়েছিল/ টুকরোটুকরো হয়েছিলো।)
9. come off
to become separated or removed from something:
The handle came off. (হাতলটা খুলে এসেছিল/ বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়েছিলো।)

used to ask why something has happened:

The news will come as no surprise to his colleagues. (সংবাদটা তার সহকর্মীদের কাছে কোনো চমক/বিস্ময় সৃষ্টি করবে না।)
13. be/have yet to come
used when something has not happened yet but will happen:
The most exciting part is yet to come. (সবচেয়ে উত্তেজনাকর অংশ তো আসেইনি/ আসার বাকিই আছে।)
14. as nice/as stupid etc as they come extremely nice, stupid etc:
My uncle Ansar is as obstinate as they come. (আমার চাচা আনসারের চেয়ে একগুঁয়ে আর কেউ হয় না।)
15. for years/ weeks/ days etc to come
used to emphasize that something will continue for a long time into the future:
This is a moment that will be remembered and celebrated for years to come. (এটা এমন এক মুহূর্ত যা আগামীতে বছরের পর বছর স্মরণ রাখা ও উদযাপন করা হবে।)

to suggest or think of an idea or plan:
We need to come up with a great idea to make money. (আমাদের টাকা উপার্জন করার ভাল কোনো আইডিয়া/উপায় বের করা দরকার।)
He came up with a brilliant idea of increasing sales. (সে বিক্রয় বাড়ানোর চমৎকার একটা উপায় বের করলো।)

If a dream or hope comes true, it really happens:
My dream of owning my own home has come true. (নিজের বাড়ির মালিক হওয়ার স্বপ্নটা আমার সত্য/পূরণ হয়েছে।)

If a problem comes to a head, it becomes very bad.
The dispute finally came to a head in March that year. (সে বছর মার্চে বিবাদটা শেষপর্যন্ত চরম আকার ধারণ করেছিলো।)

She lacks confidence and I think that has to do with her childhood. (তার আত্মবিশ্বাসের অভাব। আমার মনে হয় তার ছোটবেলার সাথে বিষয়টা সম্পর্কিত।)
Our profits are down, which has to do with poor sales. (আমাদের লাভ কমে গেছে, যা স্বল্প বিক্রির সাথে সম্পর্কিত।)

to be able to reach or get something:
Put the cake on a high shelf where the kids can’t get at it. (উঁচু তাকে কেকটা রাখ যেখানে বাচ্চারা নাগাল পাবে না।)

(i) to leave or escape from a place or person, often when it is difficult to do this:

Profits have gone down by about 2 percent. (প্রায় ২ শতাংশ লাভ কমে গেছে।)
Food prices have gone down recently. (সম্প্রতি খাদ্য মূল্য কমেছে।)
(ii) When the sun goes down, it moves down in the sky until it cannot be seen any more:
I sat on the beach and watched the sun go down. (আমি সৈকতে বসে সূর্য অস্ত যেতে দেখলাম।)

The heating goes off at ten o’clock. (হিটিং/ তাপন বন্ধ হয় দশটায়।)
(iii) If a bomb or gun goes off, it explodes or fires.
The gun went off by accident. (দৈবক্রমে বন্দুকে গুলি হলো।)
The bomb went off in a crowded street. (জনাকীর্ণ রাস্তায় বোমাটা ফুটেছিল।)
(iv) If something that makes a noise goes off, it suddenly starts making a loud noise:
His car alarm goes off every time it rains. (বৃষ্টি হলেই তার কার এ্যালার্ম আওয়াজ দেয়।)
(v) If food goes off, it stops being good to eat because it is too old:

(i) to leave a place in order to go somewhere else:
Are you going out tonight? (আজ রাতে বের হবে?)
(ii) If two people go out together, they have a romantic relationship with each other:
Tina is going out with Nijam. (টিনা নিজামের সাথে বের হয়ে যাচ্ছে।)
(iii) If a light or something that is burning goes out, it stops producing light or heat:
I’m sorry – I let the fire go out. (দুঃখিত — আগুনটা নিভিয়ে দিলাম।)

I’m having my hair cut this afternoon. (আজ বিকেলে চুল কাটিয়ে নিব।)
I’m having the house painted. (বাড়িটা রং করিয়ে নিচ্ছি।)

If you have something stolen, taken, etc., someone takes something that belongs to you:
She had her car stolen last week. (গত সপ্তাহে তার কার চুুরি হয়েছে।)
12. have a nap, walk, look, etc.
used with some nouns to say someone does something:
I had a short nap after lunch. (লাঞ্চের পর হালকা একটা ঘুম দিয়েছিলাম।)

If you have clothes or shoes on, you are wearing them:
He’s got a red shirt on. (সে একটা লাল শার্ট পড়ে আছে।)
15. have heard of something
to know that someone or something exists:
It’s a tiny country that most people have never heard of. (এটা একটা ছোট দেশ যেটার কথা অধিকাংশ লোকই কখনো শোনেনি/ জানে না।)
16. have had enough (of something/somebody)
used when something/somebody is annoying you and you no longer want to do, have or see it or them:
I've had enough of their endless arguing. [তাদের সীমাহীন তর্কাতর্কি যথেষ্ট দেখেছি/ শুনেছি (আর দেখতে চাই না)]।
I've had enough–there are limits even for the patience of a saint! (আমি যথেষ্ট সহ্য করেছি — ওলি-আওলিয়া হলেও তো তাদের ধৈর্যের একটা সীমা থাকে!)

1. to have something always, as your own:
You can keep that dress if you like it. (পছন্দ হলে ঐ ড্রেসটা রেখে দিতে পার।)
I kept every letter he ever sent to me. (এযাবৎ যত চিঠি সে দিয়েছে সব আমি রেখে দিয়েছি।)
2. keep something in, on, etc.
to always put something in a particular place:
I keep the keys in the drawer. (আমি চাবিগুলো ড্রয়ারে রাখি।) [বি.দ্র. বাংলা 'ড্রয়ারে'র সাথে ইংরেজি উচ্চারণের কোনো মিল নেই। ডিকশনারি থেকে উচ্চারণগুলো জেনে নিতে হবে।]
3. keep (someone/something) awake, clean, safe, etc.
to make someone or something stay in a particular state:
This coat should keep you warm. (এই কোট তোমাকে গরম রাখবে।)
He keeps his car very clean. (সে তার কার খুব পরিষ্কার রাখে।)
I’m so sorry to keep you waiting. (তোমাকে অপেক্ষমাণ রাখায় আমি খুব দুঃখিত।)
4. keep doing something
to continue to do something, or to often do something:
I keep telling her not to do it. (আমি তাকে এটা না করতে বলেই চলেছি।)
He keeps hitting me. (সে আমাকে আঘাত করেই যাচ্ছে।)
5. to delay someone or prevent someone/yourself from doing something:
He’s very late – what’s keeping him? [সে খুব দেরি করে — কীসে তাকে দেরি করাচ্ছে?]
I hope I'm not keeping you from your work. (আশা করি আমি তোমার কাজে বাধা দিচ্ছি না।)
The church bells keep me from sleeping. (গির্জার ঘণ্টাগুলো আমাকে ঘুমোতে দেয় না/ ঘুম হতে নিবৃত্ত রাখে।)
I could hardly keep from laughing. (আমি হাসি আঁটকাতে পারলাম না।)

to not tell anyone a secret
Can you keep a secret? (তুমি কি গোপন রাখতে পারবে?)
She kept her past secret from us all. (আমাদের সবার কাছে সে তার অতীত গোপন করেছিল/ রেখেছিল।)
7. to write something down in order to remember it:
Remember to keep a record of how much money you spend. (কত টাকা খরচ কর তার বিবরণ লিখে রাখ মনে করে।)
She kept a diary for over twenty years. (বিশ বছরের ওপর সে ডাইরি লিখেছে।)
Keep a list of the missing items. (হারানো জিনিসগুলোর তালিকা করে রাখ।)
I kept a weekly account of my workload and activities. (আমি আমার কাজকর্মের সাপ্তাহিক বর্ণনা লিখে রাখতাম।)

The fish will keep for only two days. [মাছটা শুধু দুইদিন ভাল (তাজা) থাকবে।]

Our neighbours keep chickens. ( আমাদের প্রতিবেশীরা মুরগি প্রতিপালন করে।)

to continue working hard at something difficult:
Learning a language is hard, but you just have to keep at it. (ভাষা শেখা কঠিন, কিন্তু তোমাকে লেগে থাকতে হবে।)

to stop the number, level, or size of something from increasing:
I have to exercise to keep my weight down. (ওজন কম রাখতে আমার ব্যায়াম করতে হবে।)

(i) to make someone stay inside, sometimes as a punishment:

(i) to stay with someone who is moving forward by moving as quickly as them:

(ii) to increase as quickly as something or someone else:
Prices are rising fast and wages aren’t keeping up. (মূল্য দ্রুত বাড়ছে; সেই অনুপাতে বেতন বাড়ছে না।)
(iii) to be able to understand or deal with something that is happening or changing very fast:
It’s important to keep up with international news. (আন্তর্জাতিক সংবাদের সাথে তাল মিলিয়ে চলা জরুরি।)

11. look at something
(i) to think about a subject carefully so that you can make a decision about it:
Our manager is looking at ways of reducing costs. (আমাদের ম্যানেজার খরচ কমানোর উপায় দেখতেছেন/ ভাবতেছেন।)
(ii) to read something in order to check it or see how good it is:
Can you look at my essay? (আমার রচনাটা দেখতে/ চেক করতে পারবে?)
(iii) to examine something:
Did the doctor look at your knee? (ডাক্তার কি তোমার হাঁটু দেখেছেন/ পরীক্ষা করেছেন?)
12. look forward to something
(i) to feel happy and excited about something that is going to happen:
I’m really looking forward to seeing him. (আমি সাগ্রহে তাকে দেখার অপেক্ষায় আছি।)
(ii) used at the end of a formal letter to say you hope to hear from or see someone soon, or that you expect something from:
I look forward to hearing from you.
13. look into something
to examine the facts about a situation:
They are looking into the causes of the accident. (তারা দুর্ঘটনার কারণগুলো খতিয়ে দেখছে।)

something you say when someone is in danger:

to look at a book or computer in order to find information:

Someone’s made a mistake. (কেউ ভুল করেছে।)
4. to cause something to happen or cause a particular state:
He really makes me laugh. (সে আসলেই আমাকে হাসায়।)
This heat makes me very tired. (এই তাপ আমাকে খুব ক্লান্ত করে।)
5. make someone do something
to force someone to do something:
You can’t make me go. (তুমি আমাকে যেতে বাধ্য করতে পার না।)
6. make someone/something happy, sad, difficult, etc.
to cause someone or something to become happy, sad, difficult, etc.:
You’ve made me very happy. (তুমি আমাকে অনেক সুখী করেছো।)
7. If you make an amount of money, you earn it:
He makes Tk 600,000 a year. (সে বছরে ৬০০,০০০ টাকা উপার্জন করে।)
8. If two or more numbers make a particular amount, that is the amount when they are added together:
That makes Tk 400 altogether. (ঐটা একত্রে ৪০০ টাকা হয়।)
Six and four makes/ make ten. (ছয় আর চারে দশ হয়।)
9. to become or develop into something; to be suitable for something [Linking verb]
She will make an excellent teacher. (তিনি একজন চমৎকার শিক্ষক হয়ে উঠবেন/ চমৎকার শিক্ষকে পরিণত হবেন।)
This room would make a nice office. (এই রুমটা সুন্দর একটা অফিস হবে।)
10. make the bed
to make the sheets and covers on a bed tidy
She was too lazy to make the bed. (সে এত অলস ছিল বিছানাটাও করতে পারেনি।)
You've made your bed and you must lie on/in it. (কর্মফল তোমাকে মানতেই হবে।)
11. make it
(i) to arrive at a place at the right time:
Will we make it in time for the movie? (মুভি দেখতে সময়মত আমরা পৌঁছবো তো?
(ii) to be successful:
Very few actors actually make it. (খুব কম অভিনেতাই আসলে সফল হন।)
12. make something into something
to change something into something else:
They’ve made the spare room into an office. (তারা অতিরিক্ত ঘরটাকে অফিস বানিয়েছে।)
13. make something/someone out
to be able to see, hear, or understand something or someone:
We could just make out a building through the trees. (গাছগুলোর মধ্যদিয়ে আমরা শুধু কোনো রকমে একটা ভবন দেখতে পারতাম।)
I could hear voices but I couldn't make out what they were saying. (আমি কণ্ঠ শুনছিলাম কিন্তু তারা কী বলছিল বুঝতে পারিনি।)
14. make something up
to say or write something that is not true:
I made up an excuse because I didn’t want to go. (আমি একটা অজুহাত বানালাম কারণ আমি যেতে চাইনি।)
15. make do (with something)
to manage with something that is not really good enough:
We were in a hurry so we had to make do with a quick snack. (আমরা তাড়াহুড়োর মধ্যে ছিলাম, তাই ঝটপট স্ন্যাক দিয়ে কোনোরকম চালিয়ে নিতে হলো।)

Where did you put the keys? (চাবিগুলো কোথায় রেখেছ?)
She put her bag on the floor. (সে তার ব্যাগ মেঝেতে রাখলো।
He put his arm around her. (সে তাকে হাত দিয়ে জড়িয়ে ধরলো/ বাহু-বেষ্টিত করলো।)
2. to write something:
Please put your name on the list. (তোমার নামটা তালিকায় রাখ।)
I put the date of the party on my calendar. (আমি আমার বর্ষপঞ্জিতে পার্টির তারিখটা লিখে রাখলাম।)
3. to cause someone or something to be in a particular condition or situation:
This puts me in a very difficult position. (এটা আমাকে কঠিন অবস্থায় ফেলে।)
He put me in trouble. (সে আমাকে অসুবিধায় ফেললো।)
His advice put me out of the trouble. (তার উপদেশ আমাকে অসুবিধা থেকে বের করলো।)
Don't go putting yourself at risk. (নিজেকে ঝুঁকিতে ফেলে যেয়ো না।)
4. put something away
to put something in the place where you usually keep it:
She folded the towels and put them away. (সে তোয়ালেগুলো ভাঁজ করে উঠিয়ে রাখলো।)
5. put something back
to put something where it was before it was moved:
I put the book back on the shelf. (আমি বইটা শেল্ফে তুলে/উঠিয়ে রেখেছি।)
6. put someone down
to write someone’s name on a list or document, usually in order to arrange for them to do something:
I put you down for the trip next week. [আগামী সপ্তাহের আনন্দ-ভ্রমণের জন্য তোমার নাম (তালিকায়) লিখে ফেলেছি।]
7. put something down
(i) to put something that you are holding onto the floor or onto another surface:
You can put your suitcase down in the hall. (তুমি তোমার সুটকেস হলে নামিয়ে রেখো।)
(ii) If you put the phone down, you put the part of the telephone that you speak into back to its usual position.
She put the phone down on me. (আমার কথা শেষ না হতেই সে ফোন রেখে দিলো।)
8. put something off
to decide to do something at a latertime:
I’ll put off doing the washing until tomorrow. (ধোয়ার কাজ আগামীকাল পর্যন্ত স্থগিত রাখবো।)
I must talk to her about this. I can’t put it off any longer. (আমি অবশ্যই তার সাথে এ ব্যাপারে কথা বলব। আর আমি এটা পিছাতে পারবো না।)
9. put someone off (something)
to make someone not like someone or something, or not want to do something:
Zahid was talking about his operation and it put me off my food. (জাহিদ তার অপারেশন নিয়ে কথা বলছিল। এসব কথা আমাকে খাবারের প্রতি বিতৃষ্ণা ভাব এনে দিল।)
He was put off science by bad teaching. (বিজ্ঞানের প্রতি তার অনীহা এসেছিল মন্দ পাঠদানের কারণে।)
10. put something on
(i) to put clothes or shoes onto your body:
You’d better put your coat on – it’s cold outside. (তুমি বরং তোমার কোট পরো — বাইরে ঠাণ্ডা।)
(ii) to put make up or cream onto your skin
to put make-up or cream onto your skin:
Put some sunscreen on before you go out. (বাইরে যাওয়ার আগে সানস্ক্রিন মাখো/ লাগাও।)
(iii) to put a CD, DVD, etc. into a machine so that you can hear or see it:
Do you mind if I put some music on? (আপনার কি অসুবিধে হবে যদি আমি গান জুড়ে দিই?)
(iv) If you put on weight, you become heavier:
She put on eight pounds in a month. (সে একমাসে আট পাউন্ড ওজন বাড়িয়েছে।)
(v) to make a piece of equipment work by pressing a switch:
Can you put the light on? (লাইটটা চালু করতে পারবে?)
11. put something out
to make something that is burning stop burning:
Firefighters soon put the fire out. (দমকলকর্মীরা দ্রুত আগুন নিভিয়ে ফেললো।)
12. put somebody through something
(i) to make somebody experience something very difficult or unpleasant
You have put your family through a lot recently. (সম্প্রতি তুমি তোমার পরিবারকে অনেক ভুগিয়েছ।)
(ii) to arrange or pay for somebody to attend a school, college, etc.
He put all his children through college. (সে তার সব সন্তানের কলেজের খরচ দেয়।)
13. put someone through (to someone)
to connect someone using a telephone to the person they want to speak to:
Can you put me through to the police officer, please? (আমাকে পুলিশ অফিসারের সাথে কথা বলিয়ে দিতে পারবেন একটু?)
14. put something up
(i) to raise something, or to attach something to a wall or ceiling:
I put my hand up to ask the teacher a question. (শিক্ষককে প্রশ্ন করতে আমি আমার হাত উঠালাম।)
They put a few pictures up on the wall. (তারা দেওয়ালে কিছু ছবি টাঙিয়ে দিলো।)
(ii) to increase the price or value of something:
I see they’ve put up the price of fuel again. (দেখছি তারা আবার জ্বালানির দাম বাড়িয়েছে।)
15. put up with someone/something
to accept something that is bad although you do not like it:
He’s so rude! I don’t know how you put up with him. (সে খুবই রূঢ়! জানি না কীভাবে তাকে সহ্য কর।)

1. to arrange for something to go or be taken somewhere, especially by post:
I sent him a letter last week. (গত সপ্তাহে আমি তাকে চিঠি পাঠিয়েছি।)
2. to make someone go somewhere:
I sent him into the house to fetch some glasses. (আমি তাকে বাড়িটাতে পাঠিয়েছি কিছু গ্লাস নিয়ে আসতে।)
3. to tell sb sth by sending them a message:
He sent me word to come. (তিনি আমাকে আসার বার্তা দিয়েছেন।)
She sent word (that) she could not come. (সে বার্তা পাঠিয়েছে আসতে পারবে না।)
She sent to say that she was not coming home. (formal) (তিনি বলে পাঠিয়েছিলেন যে তিনি বাড়ি আসছেন না।)
4. to make somebody behave or react in a particular way:
(i) send somebody to something
While Tagore songs always send me to sleep, Nazrul songs keep me from sleeping. (রবীন্দ্র সঙ্গীত সবসময় আমাকে ঘুম পাড়ায়, বিপরীতে নজরুলগীতি আমাকে ঘুমোতে দেয় না।)
(ii) send somebody into something
Her account of the visit sent us into fits of laughter. (তার পরিদর্শনের বর্ণনা আমাদের হাসিতে গড়াগড়ি খাইয়েছে।)
(iii) send somebody + adj
That beautiful girl nearly sent him crazy. (সুন্দরি মেয়েটা তাকে প্রায় পাগল করে দিয়েছে।)
5. send something back
to return something to the person who sent it to you, especially because it is damaged or not suitable:
I had to send the shirt back because it didn’t fit me. (আমাকে শার্টটা ফেরত পাঠাতে হয়েছিল কারণ তা আমার গায়ে লাগেনি।)
6. send for someone
to ask or tell someone to come to you, especially in order to help you:
Send for a doctor, quickly! (দ্রুত একজন ডাক্তার ডেকে পাঠাও!)
7. send for something
to ask someone to bring or deliver something to you:
He sent for help. (সে সাহায্য চেয়ে পাঠিয়েছে।)
8. send something off
to send a letter, document, or parcel by post:
Have you sent off your application form yet? (তুমি কি এখনো তোমার আবেদনপত্র পাঠিয়ে দিয়েছো?

to rise to a vertical position on your feet from sitting or lying down:
I get dizzy if I stand up too quickly. (বেশি দ্রুত দাঁড়ালে আমার মাথা ঘোরে।)
Please stand when the bride arrives. (কনে আসলে প্লিজ দাঁড়াবেন।)
3. to be in a particular place or position:
The tower stands in the middle of a field. (টাওয়ারটা মাঠের মাঝখানে।)
4. to put something in a vertical position somewhere:
She stood the umbrella by the door. (সে দরজার পাশে ছাতাটা খাড়া করে রাখলো।)
5. can’t stand someone/ something
to hate someone or something [stand = bear]:
I can’t stand him – he’s so rude! (আমি তাকে সহ্য করতে পারি না — সে রূঢ়/অভদ্র।)
She can’t stand doing housework. (সে বাড়ির কাজ ঘৃণা করে।)
6. stand for something
If a letter stands for a word, it is used to mean it:
AEG stands for ‘Analytical English Grammar.’ (AEG বুঝায় ‘Analytical English Grammar’।)
7. stand out
(i) to be very easy to see or notice:
The bright green letters really stand out on the page. (উজ্জ্বল সবুজ বর্ণগুলো পেজটাতে স্পষ্ট ফুটে উঠেছে।)
(ii) to be much better than other similar things or people:
One candidate stood out from the rest. [আমাদের প্রার্থী বাকিদের থেকে আলাদা (বিশিষ্ট) ছিল।]
8. stand up for something/ someone
to defend or support a particular idea or a person who is being criticized or attacked:
We should all stand up for our rights. (আমাদের সবার উচিত নিজেদের অধিকারগুলো সমর্থন করা/ নিজেদের অধিকারগুলোর পক্ষে দাঁড়ানো।)

I’m taking my wife to Sylhet for my holidays this year.
(এই বছরের ছুটিতে আমি বউকে সিলেট নিয়ে যাব।)
3. to travel somewhere using a bus, train, car, etc.:
He takes the bus to work. (সে বাসে অফিসে/ কর্মস্থলে যায়।)
Are you taking the train to Sylhet? (তুমি কি ট্রেনে করে সিলেট যাচ্ছো?)
4. used to tell someone which road to go on or which turning to take in order to get somewhere:
Take the third turning on the left. (তৃতীয় মোড়টাতে বামে ঘুরবে।)
Take Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue towards Farmgate.
5. to do an exam or test:
When are you taking your driving test? (ড্রাাইভিং টেস্ট কবে দিবে?)
If a student does not attend all the classes, s/he will not be allowed to take the exam. (কোনো ছাত্র সব ক্লাস না করলে, তাকে পরীক্ষা দিতে দেওয়া হবে না।)
6. If something takes a particular amount of time, or a particular quality, you need that amount of time or that quality in order to be able to do it:
It took me three days to get here. (সেখানে পৌঁছতে আমার তিন দিন লেগেছিল।)
7. to swallow or use medicine:
Take two tablets, three times a day. (দিনে তিনবার দুইটা করে ট্যাবলেট খাবেন।)
8. to remove something without asking someone:
Someone’s taken my coat! (কেউ আমার কোট নিয়েছে/ সরিয়েছে!)
9. If you take something, you reach out for it and hold it.
Hamid took her by the shoulders and shook her. (হামিদ তার কাঁধে ধরে নাড়ালো।)
She took her in her arms and tried to comfort her. (সে তাকে কোলে নিয়ে স্বস্তি দিতে চেষ্টা করলো।)
10. used with some nouns to say that someone performs an action:
I need to take a shower. (আমার গোসল করা দরকার।) [shower = ঝর্ণায় গোসল]

11. to study a subject:
He’s taking chemistry and physics. (সে রসায়ন ও পদার্থবিজ্ঞান পড়ছে।)
12. to wear a particular size of clothes:
I take a size 12. (আমার সাইজ ১২ লাগে।)
13. to accept something:
So, are you going to take the job? (অতএব, চাকরিটা নিতে যাচ্ছো?)
14. take a picture, photograph, etc.
to photograph someone or something:
I took some great photos of the kids. (বাচ্চাদের চমৎকার কিছু ছবি তুলেছি।)
15. take milk, sugar, etc.
to usually add milk, sugar, etc. to your tea or coffee:

16. take after someone
to be similar to an older person in your family:
Rafik’s very tall – he takes after his father. (রফিক খুব লম্বা — সে তার বাবার মতো।)

(i) to remove one number from another number:
If you take 4 away from 12 you get 8. (১২ থেকে ৪ বাদ দিলে ৮ থাকে।)
(ii) to remove something:
A waiter came to take our plates away. (একজন ওয়েইটার প্লেটগুলো নিতে / সরাতে আসলো।)
(iii) to buy food in a restaurant to eat somewhere else:
Is that to eat here or take away? (ঐটা এখানে খাওয়ার জন্য নাকি নিয়ে যাওয়ার জন্য?)
18. take something back
to return something to the place where you got it:
Did you take those books back to the library? (বইগুলো কি তুমি পাঠাগারে ফেরত দিয়েছিলে?)

to remove something that is on a wall or something that is temporary:
I took the pictures down after they left. (তারা যাওয়ার পর আমি ছবিগুলো নামিয়ে ফেলেছি।)

If a plane takes off, it begins to fly.
The plane took off an hour late. (বিমানটা এক ঘণ্টা দেরিতে উড্ডয়ন করলো।)
21. take something off
to remove something:
If you’re hot, take your jacket off. (গরম লাগলে জ্যাকেট খুলে ফেলো।)
22. take someone out
to go somewhere with someone and pay for them:
Our boss took us out for lunch. (আমাদের বস আমাদেরকে লাঞ্চে নিয়ে গেল।)

(i) to remove something from somewhere:
He reached into his bag and took out a book. (সে ব্যাগে হাত দিয়ে বই বের করল।)

to get control of something:

(i) to start doing a particular job or activity:

3. to move a page in a book or magazine in order to see the next one:
I offered to turn the pages for the pianist. (আমি পিয়ানোবাদকের জন্য পৃষ্ঠা উল্টানোর প্রস্তাব করলাম।)
Turn to page 35. (৩৫ পৃষ্ঠায় যাও।)
4. to move around a central point in a circle, or to make something do this:
Turn the steering wheel as quickly as you can. (যত দ্রুত পার স্টিয়ারিংটা ঘুরাও।)
5. turn blue, cold, etc.
to become blue, cold, etc.:

(i) to reduce the level of sound or heat that a machine produces:

(ii) to refuse an offer or request:

7. turn (someone/something) into someone/something
to change and become someone or something different, or to make someone or something do this:
The farmland is turning into a desert. (আবাদি ভূমিটা একটা মরুভূমিতে পরিণত হচ্ছে।)
They want to turn the offices into apartments. (তারা অফিসগুলকে এপার্টমেন্ট বানাতে চায়।)
8. turn something off
to move the switch on a machine, light, etc. so that it stops working:
How do you turn the computer off? (তুমি কম্পিউটার বন্ধ কর কীভাবে?)
9. turn something on
to move the switch on a machine, light, etc. so that it starts working:
Jhuma turned the TV on. (ঝুমা টিভি চালু করলো।)
10. turn out
to happen in a particular way or to have a particular result, especially an unexpected one:
How did the recipe turn out? (রেসিপিটা শেষপর্যন্ত কেমন হয়েছিলো?)
Despite our worries everything turned out well. (আমাদের উদ্বেগ সত্ত্বেও শেষপর্যন্ত সব ভালই হয়েছিলো।)

to increase the level of sound or heat that a machine produces:
Can you turn the heating up, please? (তাপ একটু বাড়িয়ে দিতে পারবে?)
12. turn up
to arrive:
Babu turned up late again. (বাবু আবার দেরিতে এসেছে।)
13. turn your nose up at something
to not accept something because it is not good enough:
He turned his nose up at my food. (সে আমার খাবারে নাক সিটকালো।)
