গাজায় হামলার জন্য ইসরাইল যখন বিশ্বব্যাপী সমালোচিত হচ্ছে এমন সময়ে বাংলাদেশ ই-পাসপোর্ট থেকে ‘ইসরাইল ছাড়া’ কথাটি বাদ দিয়েছে।

Bangladesh has dropped the ‘except Israel’ clause from its e-passport at a time when Israel is being censured globally for its attacks in Gaza.

বাংলাদেশ সরকারের ই-পাসপোর্ট থেকে দেশের নাগরিকদের ইসরাইল সফরে বাধাদানকারী একটি কথা সরানোর সিদ্ধান্ত এমন জল্পনাকে উস্কে দিয়েছে যে দেশটি ইসরাইলের সাথে সম্পর্ক স্বাভাবিক করার কথা ভাবছে। 

A decision by the government of Bangladesh to remove a clause from its e-passport that barred its nationals from visiting Israel has prompted speculation that the country might be looking to normalise ties with Israel.

ই-পাসপোর্ট থেকে “ইসরাইল ছাড়া” কথাটি অপসারণের পদক্ষেপ ১৬০ মিলিয়ন জনগণের দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার দেশটির মানুষকে মর্মাহত করেছে, এবং অনেকেই গাজা ভূখণ্ডে ইসরাইলি বোমা হামলায় শতশত ফিলিস্তিনির মৃত্যুর পরের এই সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়ে প্রশ্ন তুলেছেন।

The move to remove the “except Israel” clause from its e-passport has shocked people in the South Asian country of 160 million, with many questioning the decision that follows the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians in the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip.

পুরাতন বাংলাদেশি পাসপোর্টগুলোতে এই বাক্য থাকতো: "এই পাসপোর্ট ইসরাইল ছাড়া বিশ্বের সকল দেশের জন্য বৈধ।" ছয় মাস আগে, যখন দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার দেশটি নতুন ই-পাসপোর্ট চালু করে তখন কোনও প্রকাশ্য ঘোষণা ছাড়াই “ইসরাইল ছাড়া” কথাটি বাদ দেওয়া হয়। 

Older Bangladeshi passports used to bear the sentence: “This passport is valid for all the countries of the world except Israel.” Six months ago, when the South Asian country rolled out its new e-passport, the “except Israel” phrase was removed without any public announcement.
