Singular or plural?

ব্রিটিশ ইংলিশে, যেই শব্দগুলো ব্যক্তিসমষ্টিকে (groups of people) বুঝায় যেমন family, team, government সেগুলোর পর singular বা plural verbs/pronouns যেকোনোটাই হতে পারে।
The team is/are going to lose.
আমেরিকানরা অবশ্য singular verb বেশি ব্যবহার করে।
Group noun টা যখন ব্যক্তিসমষ্টি হিসেবে ব্যক্তিবাচক কাজ (personal things) করে অর্থাৎ নাচা (dancing), আশা করা (hoping), চাওয়া (wanting) ইত্যাদি তখন plural forms ব্যবহৃত হয়। আর group noun টা impersonal unit হিসেবে বিবেচিত হলে singular forms সচরাচর ব্যবহৃত হয়।

My family have decided to move to York. They're going in April.
The average family has 3.6 members. It is smaller than 50 years ago.

#NOTE 1. Plural forms -এর সাথে relative pronoun হিসেবে 'who' এবং singular forms -এর সাথে ’which’ এর ব্যবহার অধিক পছন্দনীয়। Compare:
The committee, who are hoping to announce important changes, ......
The committee, which is elected at the annual meeting, .......
কোনো group noun singular determiner (e.g. a/an, each, every, this, that) -এর সাথে থাকলে, singular verbs এবং pronouns ব্যবহার করাই স্বাভাবিক। Compare:
The team are full of enthusiasm.
A team which is full of enthusiasm has a better chance of winning. (More natural than 'A team who are full ...... .)
#NOTE 2. কখনো কখনো singular এবং plural forms মিশ্রিতভাবে ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে।
The group gave its first concert in June and they are now planning a tour.
#NOTE 3. যেসব group noun -এর পর ব্রিটিশ ইংলিশে singular এবং plural verbs দু'টোই ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে : bank, the BBC, choir, class, club, committee, family, Brazil (the football team), firm, government, jury, ministry, orchestra, party, public, school, staff, team, union.
আমেরিকান ইংলিশে প্রায় সব ক্ষেত্রেই এসবের অধিকাংশ noun -এর সাথে সচরাচর singular verbs ব্যবহৃত হয় (যদিও 'family' plural verb নিতে পারে।) Plural pronouns ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে।
The team is in Dhaka this weekend. They expect to win.
